Researchers from CITIC participate in the kick-off event of the European project Quantum Iberia

The European initiative brings together 17 organizations from Spain and Portugal to advance research, innovation, and talent development in quantum technologies and artificial intelligence

Researchers from CITIC participated in the official launch of Quantum Iberia, a major European cross-border initiative designed to position the Iberian Peninsula as a leader in quantum technologies and artificial intelligence. Presented in Santiago de Compostela, the project brings together leading research, innovation, and public-sector organizations from Spain and Portugal to advance the development and application of these strategic technologies.

Led by the Galician Innovation Agency, Quantum Iberia includes 17 partner organizations and has secured nearly €8.9 million in funding through the European POCTEP programme. The initiative aims to strengthen research and innovation capacities by promoting the shared use of infrastructure, resources, and expertise across participating regions, fostering closer collaboration between institutions on both sides of the border.

UDC is part of the consortium alongside other Galician universities, research centers, companies, and partners from Portugal and several Spanish regions. Galician entities account for almost €4.9 million of the project’s budget, highlighting the region’s strong position in the deep-tech ecosystem. Through collaborative research, technology transfer to industry and public administrations, and the training of specialized talent, Quantum Iberia seeks to accelerate digital transformation and enhance the scientific and technological competitiveness of both the Iberian Peninsula and Europe as a whole.
